The Gift of Knowledge and Understanding

Today I thought I would write about great wedding gifts, but I'm sure we can all figure out what material gifts to give. So I thought of something I've always wanted for myself and just about everyone else I know.

Have you ever had someone ask you where you are from? I normally say, "I'm from Maryland, right outside of DC." The next question I get is, "well where are your parents from?" I then say, "DC and Chicago." At this point, I know where the conversation is going. Other people from all different races and cultures want to know about my ancestry just as much as I do. Until recently, this wasn't really possible. But we now have African Ancestry. With a simple DNA test, they are able to trace your ancestry.

Can you imagine being able to actually know where you can came from? Learn who you are and give the same gift to your partner. I couldn't imagine a better gift to give to person you love and plan to spend the rest of your life.

Fab Bridesmaids!

I know we've all been in our fair share of weddings that included bridesmaid gown we would like to burn and forget it ever existed. Brides, I know it's your day, but think about your dear friends that are participating in your special day. Consider some new fab options when picking out your bridesmaid dresses. We come in all different shapes and sizes and finding a dress that looks good on everyone can be very difficult. My favorite option is Butter by Nadia, available online at www.bennyandshaw.com. She makes wrap dresses that fit sizes 2-16! As in one size fits all. The dresses can be worn in so many different ways. Let  your bridesmaid's fabulous individual style shine through!

If you're in the mood for a ball gown, Butter by Nadia has that covered too.

Fab brides remember you have options!

YES WE CAN!

I just had a few conversations with a few good friends about the focus of this blog. This blog is not just about being black or showcasing black vendors, although at times it will. This blog is to let all black women know they deserve and can have the wedding of their dreams. As you may have noticed, we are not featured in many of the bridal magazines and we are absent from advertisements. Just because you don't see your face in print, you can still be a part of the fantasy.

So in the spirit of Barack Obama, remember we don't have limitations, anything is possible, our options are endless, and we are ready for change. YES WE CAN, have the weddings of our dreams!

Ayana

Make it Funky!

Traditionally brides wear their bridal gowns all night long. No matter how big or how heavy the gown. Brides you have options! Consider changing into a second dress for the reception. I suggest something a bit form fitting or even short and sassy. This is a good way to surprise your groom. And what fab bride doesn't want to make a second grand entrance of the night.

The best thing about having a second dress is that it doesn't have to be white or a wedding dress at all! Consider some of these options by Angel Sanchez. He designs amazing wedding dresses and FABULOUS evening wear. Please contact me for pricing info and where you can find these dresses.
